How to download your own video from a direct URL

1. Prepare an eligible link

Copy the HTTPS URL that points to the file itself. Its path must end in .mp4, .mov, .webm, .m4a, or .mp3. Open it in a private window to make sure it does not depend on your signed-in session.

2. Select an accurate rights basis

Choose ownership if you control the rights, a licence if copying and downloading are expressly allowed, or public domain only when the work is genuinely outside copyright protection in the relevant jurisdiction. Do not guess.

3. Submit the URL for checks

MediaDrop validates the hostname, blocks unsafe network destinations, checks the format, and applies the source policy. Submission does not guarantee acceptance; intentional error messages identify the unmet condition.

4. Choose an output and wait

When the source is eligible, the interface shows available output choices. The file enters quarantine, is malware-scanned, and is released only after required checks pass. Avoid refreshing or closing the page while a job is still processing.

5. Download and retain your copy

The download link is temporary and tied to your session. Save the file before it expires, verify playback, and move it into your own long-term content store. MediaDrop is not an archive or backup service.

Good practice

• Use a filename that records the version and publication date.
• Keep the original and licence evidence in your own repository.
• Do not share a temporary download link with other people.
• If a URL is rejected, do not try to evade checks with redirects or a fake extension.
