Direct video URLs supported by MediaDrop
MediaDrop only handles public HTTPS URLs that point directly to a media file on an approved source. Use this guide to check a link before submitting it.

A direct URL returns the media file itself rather than an HTML page containing a player. It normally ends with a file extension and can be reached without an account, cookies, session tokens, or bypassing a paywall.

Requirements for an accepted URL
- It uses
https://and the exact hostname approved by the operator. - Its path ends in a supported media extension; a query string may follow the extension.
- The file is publicly reachable without authentication.
- Its size, redirects, and processing time remain within the service's safety limits.
- You own the media, hold a suitable licence, or the work is in the public domain.
Why are sources restricted?
An allowlist helps control rights, prevents access to internal networks, and stops the service from being used to evade another platform's protections. A source must pass technical, terms, and rights review before it is enabled.
Public availability does not automatically grant permission to copy. MediaDrop asks you to select and attest to a valid rights basis before creating a download.
Quick self-check
- Open the URL in a private window. If the browser plays or downloads the file itself without a login, it may be direct.
- Check the hostname and extension. Look-alike names and unapproved subdomains are rejected.
- Confirm your rights. Ask the owner if you are unsure.
- Submit the URL. MediaDrop still performs server-side network, policy, and format checks.
